This is an on line gallery of Josef Klingler Jr( joe Klingler) is a Chicago artist working in a variety of creative realms. His career started in fine woodworking and home restoration. As Josef continued to study figure drawing and painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College, and Evanston Art Center. While on a vacation in Japan, he was completely inspired by the awesome beauty of the Japanese architecture and crafts. One day while he was in Kasama, Japan, Josef was admiring a group of famous potters. He asked one artist if he could try the wheel and that was his initiation into pottery. Joe continued his studies when he returned to Chicago.

this online gallery contains these intricately designed, beautiful one-of-a-kind miniature teapots are inspired by his sojourn in Japan. Each handmade miniature teapot is hand-thrown and then goes through a series of decorative stages: Hand-built embellishments and carvings and a series of glazing and firing. The miniatures started out as small prototypes for glazes on larger pieces. Joe soon realized that the 3 to 5 inch miniature teapots had their own visual power. The terra cotta miniature teapots are food safe and functional.

Joe's marvelous, beautiful miniature teapots were seen at SOFA with function+art in Chicago in 2002. He makes his pottery in Chicago. hand-made, made by hand

The teapots in these pages on online gallery, are each individually hand-made from red terra-cotta clay starting on a potters wheel. Hand built handles, knobs and other details are then added. Carving and sculpting may also be employed. Then a combination of underglazes and glazes are meticulously applied. They then go through a series of firings to achieve the colors and textures that I desire. Each miniature teapot in this online(on-line) gallery is carefully considered, handled and created as an individual work of art. If one had the notion to use a miniature teapot, they are food safe, but their primary function of a miniature teapot is purely aesthetic. If a miniature teapot you like has already been sold don't despair there will be more miniature teapots coming in the future. And if there is a color or handle or anything that you like about a particular miniature teapot, please let me know and I would be happy to inform you when I have created another miniature teapot that I think might suite you. I would love to hear what you think of my work as well as my website. Please contact me at j@jklingler.com Featuring handmade or hand-made if you prefer, functional and purely decorative ceramic teapots and pottery, each Stunning piece displays the Jk logo.
